ellips is…
Since I started making them, I’d always marked my pots with 3 dots — without much reason other than I liked how it looked. Then, after years of it staring me right in the face, I realized those dots are an ellipsis, which happens to perfectly capture so many aspects of what I love about throwing on the wheel: the contemplation of every little step. The “what if…” moment before trying something new. The drifting of time when deeply engaged. The meaning of the word and the shapes of its symbol felt familiar to the act: fleeting, circular, cyclical, multiple, iterative, ongoing, undecided…
I also like the idea that pots are the holders and deliverers of so much we love: warm stew on a cold day, any kind of noodle, fresh coffee, kids cereal, flowers from the market, a sip of scotch, your cherished rings, cream or sugar…
i hope you enjoy the pots, and whatever you put into them. cheers - eric
